A pastizz (plural pastizzi) is a savoury miniature pastry, typical from Malta and Gozo. Pastizzi are usually diamond-shaped or round-shaped and made of filo pastry (although there is also a puff pastry version). The pastry is folded in different ways according to the filling. Pastizzi usually have a filling either of ricotta or of mushy peas, and are called pastizzi tal-irkotta, "cheesecakes", or pastizzi tal-piżelli, "peacakes". Pastizzi are a popular and well-known very cheap Maltese food. You can find them in any Pastizzerija (street hole-in-the-wall bakery!) and Café.
